Two years ago, we embarked on a journey with Five Rivers Health Centers to plan and design a new, consolidated medical office building in Edgemont, a neighborhood in Dayton, OH. Through the COVID19 pandemic, working virtually as necessary and in-person once safe to do so, our team collaborated with Five Rivers and their partners to realize the vision of bringing quality healthcare to all those who need it in the community, regardless of income level. On May 11th, we cut the ribbon on this important new facility, celebrating this exciting day with all of the project partners, the staff at Five Rivers, and members of the community!

Bockfest was back this year, funky and fun as ever before! As we celebrated the coming of spring and our fine city’s rich brewing history, we sipped on our own bock beer, “The Bock-itect,”brewed by our in-house Brewmaster, Andy Plogsted.
Our planning work with Kroger resulted in the renovations of several of their corporate offices, to include Plaza II in Blue Ash, OH. The two-story office building, constructed in 1980, functioned without an elevator until recent workplace re-organizations prioritized the need. Previous renovation projects attempted to incorporate traditional interior core construction, but the loss of usable area and negative impact to the schedule and budget eliminated it each time. In order to keep the project on schedule and align with budget, our team designed a new, prefabricated hydraulic elevator situated on the exterior of the building near the main entrance.

The Cincinnati 2030 District’s mission is to create a network of healthy, high-performing buildings in Cincinnati with an ultimate goal of reducing energy use, water consumption and transportation emissions 50% by the year of 2030. I believe that it is my role as a designer to push sustainability in a project as one of the driving forces. It simply can no longer be a feature we choose to include if budget allows. The future of our communities depends on how sustainable our built environment is.
It has been quite some time since Elevar has had a proper gathering, but this week we had a lot to celebrate with the return of two of our beloved things. Our founder, Emilio Fernandez, returned to the office and our Cincinnati Reds played their first game of the 2021 season! This week, under social distancing protocols, we fired up the grill and celebrated in the Elevar garage, in spite of April snow flurries!

Providing healthcare services for those in the later stages of life will become more and more prevalent as the post-war silent generation will soon be supplanted by the largest demographic: baby boomers. Recognizing this inevitable occurrence, healthcare providers have been taking steps to plan for this influx of septuagenarians, octogenarians, and up within their healthcare facilities.
Human beings require shelter from the elements, clean air, energy in the form of food, sleep, and of course a doctor’s visit to maintain our health at least once a year, if not more, as we age. Just like a physician’s checkup where the doctor checks all vital signs to make sure they are functioning, Elevar looks at all basic functions of the building enclosure from the hair on top (the roof) to the feet (the foundation).
