The Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati required a renovation of a building, re-designed to function as a Green Learning Station, housing their education programs. This building is a reclaimed gas station that has been transformed to demonstrate the best in Green Technologies including: daylighting, water efficient fixtures, natural ventilation, storm water management, renewable energy, and green roof technologies. The project is a showcase for green technologies that can be applied to urban neighborhoods, existing buildings and community gardens. In collaboration with private enterprise, University of Cincinnati students, and Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati, this project includes a comprehensive test laboratory for five types of permeable pavement systems, five types of green roofs, three types of bioswale plant and soil mixtures, stormwater harvesting and real time sensors tied into a geonet array. The design also showcases four types of green roof technology.
